Shabby Chic Craft for December 2006
For any holiday celebration, use this craft idea:
Take shower curtain rings and paint them with markers or paints, decorate each one with lace, flowers, candies, ribbons, beads, silk leaves, and you can hang each one on a Xmas tree, or plant; maybe for a candle holder or napkin ring. I painted ours like candy canes! |

“How to Use Paintings for Puppetry” A 3 foot by 4 foot painting that I bought from Furniture Outlet on Euclid Street in Ontario, California done in acrylic brush style is a scene of a brook in the forest with a dirt path nearby. This makes a great backdrop for a puppet show using any kind of puppet you can imagine. Ours happens to be bears that live in the forest and visit the brook every day to see what is going on. As the bears walk around the pine trees and cross the stream walking on trees that have fallen , the puppet bears happen to move just like a paintbrush in the hand of a painter. When giving the puppet show, your hand puppet becomes the action of a brushstroke on the canvas as you tell the story you made up yourself about the whale that the bears caught out of the fresh water pond. “How did that happen?” Any painting you can buy and hang on the wall can become the topic of your story. If you bought a painting of a city street, or the ocean . Or perhaps something like an Indian village scene, match the puppets you use to the painting. The story is up to you. You could also base your puppet show on a book and buy the painting to match the book. Then, tell the story using purchased or home-made puppets. You can make puppets out of old socks, paper bags of all kinds, construction paper and popsicle sticks, or crepe paper mache. Look for instructions on making these puppets in January 2007!
